Christmas Shopping

__________________________________________________________________________________________
There was a thump against the window. You frowned slightly and got up and went to investigate the source of the thumping, leaving the presents you were wrapping on the dining room table. You opened the window and looked outside. A snowball came wising past your left ear and you ducked trying to avoid it.
"Haha! Sorry dude!" A laugh came from outside. You peeked out and saw your long time friend, and secret crush, Alfred Jones wearing a Santa hat and his usual dorky grin standing in your front yard. You rolled your eyes and shook your head.
"Y'know, you could be a normal person and knock on the door if you want to get my attention." You said.
"Nah, where would the fun in that be?" He asked "And besides, the hero's always gotta make an epic entrance." He struck his "hero" pose and laughed again. You couldn't help but laugh at him. He was just too darn cute.
"Hey (name), are you ready to go?" He asked after you both had stopped laughing. 'Is is time to go already?' you thought looking at the clock on the wall. It was one o'clock. Alfred had left some of his Christmas shopping until the last minute again, and you had agreed to go to the mall and help him, even though the thought of the mall two day's before Christmas scared you.
"Yeah, sure. Just give me a sec." You said. You grabbed your shoes and jacket and headed outside, hiding the unwrapped presents before you left just incase someone came in.
"So, who all do you still need to get presents for?" You asked as you climbed into Alfred's car.
"Just Arthur and you I think." He said.
"Me? You don't have to get me anything." You said.
"What? What do you mean I don't have to get you anything? You're my best friend, you're getting something." He said driving down the street.
"No, you really don't have to."
"Yes I do. What'd ya want?"
    "Nothing."
"Oh come on, there's gotta be something." He pressed
    "Nope." You said unhelpfully.
"Okay, fine." He huffed "I'm going to buy you the first thing I see at the mall then."
"Right…you do that. Anyway, what are you going to get Arthur?" you asked him changing the subject. Alfred sighed.
"I don't know. Maybe a tea pot or something." He said.
"That'll work. He likes tea." You nodded.
"He's probably got a million of those though. I don't know. We'll see what catches my eye at the mall." He said.
"So it's going to be another shopping adventure?" You asked.
"Hellz yeah!" He said excitedly. The rest of the ride to the mall was spent with the both of you singing Christmas songs at the top of you voices and laughing. Traffic sucked and parking at the mall was a nightmare, but that didn't seem to dampen Alfred's sprits. Once he found a parking spot, he bounded out of the car and almost sprinted into the building.
"Hurry up (name)! All the good gifts are gonna be gone!" He called over his shoulder.
"That's why you don't wait till the last minute to get presents…" You muttered under your breath, trotting after him.
Alfred stopped just inside the door, and was scanning the shops around him. You came up behind him, and he pointed at something.
"That. I'm buying you that." He grinned
"A…bench?" You asked raising an eyebrow.
"Haha well until you tell me what you want, that's what you're gonna get." He laughed.
"I don't think that they'll see you the bench that's sitting in the middle of the mall." You said
"Come on (name). There's gotta be something that you want." He said giving you the puppy dog eyes trying to make you cave and tell you.
"No really, there's nothing." You said. It wasn't really something that you wanted for Christmas, it was more like someone, him intact, but you weren't going to tell him that.
"But-" He started, but you cut him off.
"Why don't we focus on finding Arthur a present." You said. Alfred frowned.
    "Fine…" He huffed.
You wondered around the mall with him  for almost three hours, spending more time goofing around in the stores then looking for a present. After a while, Alfred found a nice gold pocket watch that would make a good present for Arthur. You still wouldn't tell Alfred what you wanted for Christmas and he had almost given up on trying to convince you to tell him, saying that he would just get you socks or something lame like that. Before you left the mall, Alfred wanted to stop by the food court and grab some lunch. The both of you were on your way there when Alfred stopped dead in his tracks. You nearly ran into him.
"Why'd ya stop?" You asked giving him a confused look. He bounced up and down and pointed excitedly at something a little ways down the hall.
"Santa!!" He said excitedly. You looked at what he was pointing at. Sure enough, down that hall  was a set up of the north pole complete with reindeer and Santa sitting in a sleigh.
"Yeah, Santa's been known to be at the malls this time of year." You teased him.
"Can we go see him please?" Alfred pleaded "There's like no line right now. Please?"
"Aren't we a little old to go see Santa?" You asked.
"You're never to old to see Santa!" He said running down the hall pulling you behind him.
The line really wasn't that bad, witch was surprising seeing that it was this close to Christmas. There were a few excited kids around you, none of them were as excited as Alfred though. He was bouncing and grinning ear to ear.
"What? Did your mom not take to you see Santa when you were a kid of something?" You asked watching him bounce.
"No she did. I just like seeing Santa. Do you have a problem with that?"
"No, it's just funny to see you this excited." You laughed. He stuck his tongue out at you, and you did that same back to him. Once it was your turn to go see Santa, Alfred bounded up to the man, but came to a quick stop. Looking at the Santa you saw why. It was a friend of yours, Tino Väinämöinen. You smiled at him.
"Hey Tin-"Alfred started to say, but you nudged him hard in the side. He looked at you and you nodded towards the kids waiting in line. Comprehension dawned on his face.
"I mean: Hey Santa!" He called.
"Ho ho ho! Marry Christmas!" Tino Said happily. Playing Santa really worked for him. Alfred grinned and plopped down on Tino's lap. You looked away pretending you didn't know that big idiot. You heard Tino ask Alfred what he wanted for Christmas, and Alfred spouted off a whole list of thing. You were pretending to be more interested in the decorations then listing to what he was saying. You already had his present, a Captain America shield that shot foam disks, so it didn't really matter anyway. You knew he'd like it a lot, and couldn't wait to give it to him.
"Alright (name), your turn!" Alfred called to you. "Ha! You have to tell Santa what you want for Christmas!"
"But I really don't want anything." You said for the thousandth time that day, walking up to them.
"Nothing?" Tino repeated sadly. You shook your head.
"There has to be something." Tino said.
"You gotta tell him. It's like a rule or something." Alfred said. You looked at the two men for a  moment. Tino smiled at you and patted his leg indicating that you should sit there. You sighed.
"Since you're both insisting…" You said sitting on his lap. "What I want this Christmas, is for everyone to have a good Christmas." You said. It wasn't a lie, it just wasn't what Alfred was wanting you to say. He gave an exasperated sigh, and Tino smiled.
"That can be arranged quite easily." Tino said "Now smile for your picture!" The camera flashed and Tino wished you both a "Marry Christmas" again as Alfred went to pay for the picture.
"You owe me." You said as you walked away.
    "What? For what?" Alfred asked.
    "For doing that." You said.
"It wasn't that bad." He said.
"Oh it was the most horrible thing ever. I don't know how I survived it." You said dramatically.
"You didn't even tell Santa what you really wanted." He huffed.
    "Still." You said.
"Fine…what do I owe you?" He asked after a minute of quite pouting.
    "Just a hug." You said.
"I can do that!" He said scoping you up off the ground in a tight bear hug. He started walking somewhere.
"Al! Where are we going? Put me down!" You said. Alfred stopped and put you down but didn't let you go.
"I can walk you know." You said, but he wasn't listening. He was looking up at something above your heads. You looked up too.
"Is…is that?" There was a little bunch of white berries tied with a red ribbon hanging above you. "Who's idea was it to hang mistletoe in a m-" Alfred cut you off by pressing his lips against yours. He kissed you on the lips right there in front of everyone. You didn't complain or fuss, but kissed him back. It was like a dream come true. You had thought about kissing him for a long time, but had never plucked the courage to do so. That didn't matter anymore though. After a long moment, you broke apart and looked at each other.
"That's a present I've wanted to give you for a long time. And seeing how you wouldn't tell me what you really wanted, I figured now would be a good time to give you that one." He said softly.
"It was wonderful." You said. "Al, I've gotta be frank with you."
"Why do you want to be frank? Why can't you be (name) with me? I like (name) so much more that frank." He joked.
"That's not what I mean." You laughed "It's just that I've been lying to you about what I want for Christmas."
"So you do want something?" You nodded. "I knew it! What is it? Name it, and it's yours." He said
"…You." You said just quiet enough that only he could hear you. It took him a second to understand what you said, but then he smiled and hugged you close.
"One hero for Christmas! You got it! Sweet! This means I don't have to go to another store! Wait…does that mean I have to wear a bow? " He asked, grinning at you. You laughed.
"No." You said, kissing him again. "But you should keep the Santa hat."
"Anything for you babe. Merry Christmas (name)." He said warmly
    "Merry Christmas Al."
