Christmas cookies
Part 2: All grown up

___________________________________________________________________________________________________
     "Where did that dang pen go?" You grumbled to yourself digging around your desk. It was Christmas Eve again. You had to get a Christmas card filled out for your parents before you went over to their house for dinner, but your pen seemed to have disappeared. You rummaged around some more knocking a small stack of pictures your mom had brought over last time she had visited. The pictures spilled out across the desk. You went to stack them up again, when a picture caught your eye. 'What's this?' you thought as you picked it up. It was a picture of two kids curled up together on the couch sound asleep. Your eyes widened a bit when you realized that it was you and Alfred when you were younger. It had to be. You would recognize Alfred's cowlick anywhere.
     You smiled looking at the picture. Your best friend had been so cute back then. Alfred had grown up into a rather good looking young man, and the two of you were still just as close as the day you were when this picture was taken. The two of you had stayed friends through all these years. Through thick and thin, Alfred was always there for you. Lately however, you noticed that your feelings for him changed slightly. You looked forward to any chance you got to see him. Your heart would race whenever he would look at you, go weak at the knees whenever he would smile. Was it love that you now felt for him? Of course you loved him as a friend, but maybe just maybe that friend love had grown into something different and all you could do was wonder if he felt the same way. You felt the need to decorate cookies all of a sudden. You dug your phone out of your pocket and dialed a number.
     "Hero speaking!" Alfred said cheerfully on the other end.
     "Hey Al." You said warmly.
     "(name)! What's up?!" He said excitedly. You giggled. He was always so excited about everything.
     "Oh not much." You said. "Hey, are you doing anything later tonight?"
     "Not that I know of. Why?" He asked.
     "I was wondering if you wanted to come over and decorate some Christmas cookies." You said.
     "Dude! That's a great idea!" he shouted. You could hear the smile in his voice. "Why can't we do it now?"
     "Because I'm having dinner at my parents in a little bit." You explained.
     "Oh I guess that is kinda important, isn't it?" He said sounding a little disappointed.
     "Yea, just a bit." You said.
     "Okay I guess I'll see you later then. Tell the fam I said hi, 'kay?" He said.
     "Sure thing! Bye Al." You said
     "See ya (name)!" Alfred said and hung up. You smiled. You loved spending time with him. You turned your attention back to your search for the pen.
     "Now I just gotta find that damn pen…"

~~~
     Later that night after you got back from your parents, you went into the small kitchen in your apartment and started making sugar cookies. It was nearly time for you to pull them out of the oven when you heard a knock at the door. Knowing who it was, you bounded over to the door and pulled it open. Alfred was standing there wearing a Santa hat and with his typical goofy grin plastered on his face.
     "(name)!" He shouted trapping you in a tight hug. You smiled and hugged him back. You loved his hugs, they were so warm.
     "Hi Alfred." You said your voice slightly muffled by his shoulder. He let go of you and smiled again.
     "Dude, you'll never guess what I found in a box of some of my old stuff." He said digging in his coat pocket for something.
     "What's that?" you asked him.
     "This." He said pulling a folded piece of paper out of his pocket and handing it to you. It looked old. Gingerly you unfolded it and looked at it. It was the picture of a Christmas tree you had given him years ago.
     "You still have this?" You asked him feeling shocked.
     "Of course I do!" He said coming inside your apartment and taking his coat off. "It was a gift from my best friend that meant a lot to me. Do you really think I would have gotten rid of it?" he playfully punched you in the arm. You smiled and handed the picture back to him. The timer on the over went off.
     "What was that?" Alfred asked looking around.
     "Oh snap! The cookies!" You dashed into the kitchen, Alfred close on your heels. You opened the oven and breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, they didn't burn."
     "They smell so good (name)." Alfred said drooling a little bit as you placed the tray of cookies on the counter. You started to dig around in the cabinets looking for sprinkles or anything to decorate the cookies with.
     "Hey Al, could you mix up the icing?" You nodded to the bowl of powdered sugar icing you hadn't had a chance to mix yet.
     "Sure thing!" Alfred said. You continued to rummage around in the cabinet until you found some sprinkles. You grabbed them and turned around to see that Alfred had grabbed your electric mixer and was holding it over the bowl of unmixed icing.
     "I meant with a spoon Al." You said walking over to him.
     "This way is faster. Trust me." He said in his hero voice turning on the mixer. 'I have a band feeling about this…' you thought. Of course he turned it to its highest setting first. As soon as he put it in the bowl, icing went flying everywhere. You squealed and tried to shield your face from the flying icing. Alfred turned off the mixer and looked around at the mess he had made.
     'Hehe…oops." He said. You started to laugh. "What?"
     "Why is it every time we try to make cookies, we end up getting covered in cookie stuff?" You giggled looking at him. He rubbed the back of his head.
     "That does seem to happen a lot, doesn't it?" He chuckled. He looked at you and laughed even harder.
     "What's so funny?" You asked him.
     "Dude you've got icing all over your face." He laughed.
     "Oh…" You could feel your face blushing a bit as you turned to grab a rag to clean yourself off. Alfred caught your arm.
     "Here, I'll get it." He said pulling you closer to him. You were blushing madly now as he wiped your cheek clean.
     "D-did you get it all?" You asked him, noticing just how close he was to you now.
     "Hang on, I missed one spot." He leaned in and pressed his lips against yours. You gasped in surprise. This was so unexpected. Once you got over the initial shock of Alfred kissing you, your eyes fluttered closed and you kissed him back. It was just like you dreamed it would be, soft and sweet, just like him. You broke apart, both of you needing air. You blinked at him a couple times, still processing what just happened.
     "I doubt that there was icing there." You said quietly giving him a small smile. He grinned.
     "Okay fine, you caught me. I just wanted to kiss you." He said. "I've wanted to for a long time." He added the last part sounding a little sheepish and blushing slightly. You wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him closer to you.
     "Hey, I'm not complaining." You said before you kissed him again. He was a little taken aback by you actions, but enjoyed it none the less.
     "I take it I don't have to ask if the feeling is mutual then, eh?" He said against your lips. You giggled.
     "That would be a silly question Al." You said. He rested his forehead against yours. You looked up into his eyes, and smiled. His blue eyes were full of an expression you hadn't seen before, but you knew what it was and were sure yours were filled with the same thing. It was love. He brushed his nose against yours.
     "I love you (name)" He said sweetly.
     "I love you too Alfred." You breathed. Your heart was fluttering away in your chest. 'I love you.' Three simple words, and yet they meant the world to you coming from him. You stared into each other's eyes for a long time.
     "What were we doing?" Alfred asked after a while.
     "Cookies." You prodded him.
     "Oh right! How could I forget the cookies?!" he grinned and grabbed what was left of the icing with one hand, and your hand with his other. "These cookies aren't going to decorate themselves. Shall we?" You nodded and grabbed the tray of cookies and walked with Alfred over to the table. He the blow down and sat down in one of the chairs. You set the tray down looking at the bowl of icing, an idea hatching in your head. You ran your finger along the edge of the bowl collecting some icing on it.
     "Hey Al?" You said trying to sound as if you weren't up to anything.
     "Yeah?" He asked turning to look at you. You wiped off the icing on your finger on his nose. His eyes when cross-eyed a bit trying to look at the icing on the tip of his nose.
     "Hey now, the icing is supposed to go on the cookies, not my face." He pouted.
     "You got icing on my face. Call it bay back." You laughed. Alfred laughed as well.
     "You got a kiss for me getting icing on your face, does that mean I get one as well?" He asked sounding hopeful.
     "If you can catch me!" you chirped bolting out the kitchen door. Alfred laughed and charged after you. You ran around the couch in the living room trying to but some space in between you and him, but he just jumped over the couch. Wrapping his strong arms around your waist, he pulled you down into the couch.
     "Gotcha'" He said in your ear.
     "You did." You giggled wiggling around on his lap so that you were facing him. You kissed the icing off his nose. "Yum, tasty." You said.
     "You could say that again." Alfred said gently caressing your cheek. He leaned in close to you again kissing your lips with a lot more passion then his first kiss had. You had never been happier in your whole then you were in this moment. When you broke apart, Alfred was smiling at you. You sighed happily and rested your head on his shoulder.
     "Merry Christmas Alfy." You said softly.
     "Merry Christmas (nickname)." He said hugging you a little closer to him.
Okay so fast forward like fifteen years from the last story, and you've got this one. Woo Hoo!!! lol. Best. Christmas. Ever! Nuff said. So I guess you two got distracted form decorating the cookies again...
Alfred: You're so mean...
Me: Why am I mean?
Alfred: Because you're the author, and you wrote that we got distracted from the cookies.
Me: Hey I didn't hear you complaining then.
Alfred: Well yeah because I was kissing a pretty girl then, but now I'm sad because I don't have any cookies.
Me: (shakes head) Sorry...
Anyway! I hope you liked this! I love writing it. Thanks for reading! :heart:
