A Pirates Life
Chapter 6

___________________________________________________________________________________________________
     A bit of sea sprayed into your face. You were sitting on the bow of the ship looking out across the ocean. You couldn't believe that you were on route to find a priceless treasure. After leaving Port Talbot, Arthur had set a curse for some little island off the southern coast of Africa. Apparently that's where this Devil's Eye thing was supposed to be. You couldn't help but wonder if it really had the powers Arthur had told you about, or if it was even there. You pushed those thoughts to the back of your mind, this was still the adventure you had always dreamed of. The only down side was that you had been captured by a pirate…a rather attractive pirate. Your mind wandered and you thought of Arthur and his kisses, that you actually really liked, and how he looked without his shirt on… 'No! No day dreaming about him!' You told yourself forcibly. 'You're not falling for that damn pirate.'
     Arthur's voice cut through your thoughts. You turned your head and saw him striding about on the deck shouting orders to his crew. The men were honestly terrified of him. Just a look from him could send them cowering. But they respected him as well, and things ran smoothly on his ship. Arthur looked at you and hos expression softened a bit. He gave you a small smile and winked at you before turning to go back to the helm.
You blushed and looked back out at the ocean. 'I don't get him…ruthless pirate one moment, than almost a sweet gentleman the next…is he sweet on me, is that what it is? No couldn't be that. I'm betting on the fact that he took me for the sole purpose of just getting me in bed. I'm nothing but a common whore to him.' You thought. 'But then why did he come after me the other day. He can get a whore anywhere, why me? And why hasn't he tried to have me again? What's with this guy? I just don't get it…' You propped your elbows on the side of the ship and buried your face in your hands trying to sort things out in your head.
     There was a deep role of thunder. Your head snapped up and you looked around. Storm clouds were building not too far off in the distance. Your eyes widened a bit. For what you had heard from sailors in the pub back home, storms at sea could get bad fast. 'Maybe things won't be too bad…' You thought hopefully keeping an eye on the storm as it continued to build.

~~~
     The storm hit sooner rather than later. At first it seemed alright, it was just a bit of rain and the water around the ship was a little bit rougher. But in no time at all, it felt like you had been plunged into a watery nightmare. The rain was coming down in slanted sheets while the wind howled around you. waves came crashing down onto the deck causing anyone to lose their footing, and of course you, with your inexperience of being at sea, ended up face first on the deck more than once. You staggered to your feet after falling yet again and looked around. The crew was rushing about trying to secure things. You wanted to help, but didn't know where to start. You took a few steps forward and ran into something rather solid and fell back down to the deck. Someone roughly grabbed you upper arm and pulled you to your feet.
     "Bloody hell! (name), what are you doing up here?!" It was Arthur. He was completely drenched in rain and ocean water. "It's not safe for you up here. Go wait in my cabin." He had to shout to be heard over the crashing waves and howling wind.
     "But I want to help." You shouted back. Arthur pulled you close to him as another wave came crashing down dumping gallons of cold water on top of both of you. The weight of the water nearly knocked you over again, but Arthur kept you upright. After the wave passed Arthur looked at you with concern and worry in his eyes.
     "Really love, this isn't a place for you right now." He shouted. You couldn't really argue with the look in his eyes. You rolled your eyes.
     "Okay fine!" You said loud enough for him to hear. He let go of you and you tried to make your way to his cabin. The waves were relentless. Another one came crashing down on top of you, causing you to trip and fall against the railing of the ship. Before you could recover your footing, the ship rocked underneath your feet. You felt yourself fall over the side of the ship. You screamed and tried to grab out for something, but there was nothing there. You hear a faint cry of 'Man overboard!' before you hit the water, and then everything became a wet blurry mess. Up, down, left, right became the same thing in the turbulent water. Disoriented you attempted to make a break for the surface. Fighting against the waves, your head popped out of the water. You gasped for air, but before you could get a full breath, the waves forced you back down under the surface. Running low on air, you tried to kick to the surface again. You knew how to swim, it's just that you had never been in waters this rough before, and you were getting tired.
     The surface was nowhere in sight. Your lungs were screaming for oxygen, still you tried to find the surface even though you limbs were growing heavy. You opened your mouth for air, but only sucked in salty sea water. You tried so hard no to cough knowing that you needed what little air you had left in your lungs. Your vision started to blur. 'This is it.' You thought hopelessly. 'End of the line. I'm gonna die.' You thought you felt something grab you around the waist before you blacked out.
~~~

     Black. That's all you saw was black. The blackness pressed down on you so much that you couldn't think, couldn't breath, couldn't move. Out of nowhere, a sharp pain came across your chest. It felt as is some was stomping down hard on your chest. And it didn't stop. It came again and again.
     "Come on (name) dammit! Don't you bloody dare die on me!" You heard Arthur's voice. It sounded so far away. You couldn't see him through the blackness, but you knew he was there
When the pain became almost unbearable, your eyes snapped open. You briefly saw a pair of bright green eyes staring at you before you started coughing up salt water. You rolled over on your side and were met with the hard wood of the deck again. You kept coughing. Someone was thumping on your back trying to help get the water out of your lungs.
     "Ah! She lives!" A voice from overhead said.
     "Swallowed a bit of the sea there lass, that wasn't smart." Someone teased.
     "Like to see how you would have fared in her position." Arthur said pulling you up to a sitting position and taking your face in his hands. "Are you alight?" he asked his green eyes looking at you very carefully. You were able to look around a bit. The storm was short lived and was already blowing itself out. Things were a lot calmer now.
     "I…I t-think so." You coughed. Your chest was hurting. You rubbed it with a grimes. "God, who was dancing on my chest." You groaned.
     "That would be the Cap'n lass. I reckon 'e saved ye life." You recognized the voice of Smith. You looked at Arthur in amazement, and noticed that he had a rope tied around his waist. 'He jumped in after me? Crazy wanker.' You thought. Not that you were complaining though, you were happy to be alive. Arthur sighed and picked you up off the ground. You were too weak and shaky to protest this time.
     "I'm just glad you're alright love." He said walking to his cabin. Once inside, he set you down and grabbed a blanket wrapping you tightly in it. He cupped your face gently in his hand looking you right in the eye.
     "For a moment there, I thought I lost you." He said quietly. You gulped realizing just how close really being dead you had been.
     "For a moment there, I think you did." You said your voice just barely above a whisper. He pulled you into a tight hug. You were slightly taken aback.
     "Please don't do that again." He said.
     "What do you think I did that on purpose? Believe it or not, that was not a lot of fun for me either." You scoffed. Arthur chuckled and held you out at arm's length.
     "Always so feisty." He said his green eyes pouring into your (color) ones. You were quiet for a moment.
     "You jumped in after me…why?" You asked.
     "Well, I couldn't risk losing that key stone you're wearing 'round your neck." He said. You rolled your eyes. Of course it had to be that. "And, I didn't want to lose you." he added. Your eyes widened.
     "Wha-" You were cut off by his lips against yours. 'Does he really care for me? No…it can't be that…' You pondered as you kissed him back. 'Do I care for him? God…I really don't know.' He pulled away from you. You blinked at him.
     "You…you look cold." You said quietly. "You should probably put some dry clothes on before you catch a cold."
     "Yeah… that's probably a good idea." He said turning away from you. You were glad he did so he wouldn't see the blush that was creeping into your face.
